Report: The Third Annual Southeast Micromounters Winter Gathering
Advent Christian Village,
Dowling Park, Florida
Friday & Saturday, February 20 & 21, 2004
We had an excellent learning experience with two very qualified speakers, and a great time of fellowship and sharing with friends.
A block of very comfortable rooms was available at the lodge for the gathering.
Friday afternoon we set up microscopes in the conference room and visited with our friends who were straggling in for several hours.
At 5:00 pm we went for supper at the Phillips Dining room.
In the evening we went on into the late hours with sharing, swapping, show & tell and had a great time catching up on everyone's happenings.
Saturday we had an early breakfast at the newly remodeled cafe. Have to tell you that the Blueberry Muffins are a special treat.
Around 9:00 A.M. the Morning Session started.
John Whatley gave a Slide presentation about Graves Mountain, Lincoln County, GA.
We were invited to make comments and ask questions during the presentation, and I found the presentation and discussions to be very informative.
The afternoon's scheduled Session, a presentation by Jason Smith had to be scrubbed due to an illness in his family. Hopefully he will volunteer to reschedule for next year.
We simply moved on to Julian Gray's informative presentation on Digital Photomicrography and Optical Mineral Identification.
Around 5:00 P.M. we broke for dinner at the Phillips Dining Room.
After dinner, Julian Gray continued on the subject of Photomicrography.
coffee, drinks and snacks were provided both days, and we really owe the Cunninghams, Jimmy Sheehan, and Levy and Donna Canova a big thank you for the delicious home made treats they provided.
